Jack Wilshere has yet to be offered a new contract at Arsenal, says Arsene Wenger.

The England midfielder will have just one-year left to run on his existing Arsenal contract when he returns to the Emirates from his season-long loan at Bournemouth and has previously expressed his fears over his future at the Emirates.

As such, Wilshere has been linked with a move away from Arsenal, with Bournemouth, AC Milan, Roma and Manchester City all keen admirers of the 25-year-old.

However, Wenger did state in November that he will offer Wilshere a new deal, but the player will need assurances from the Frenchman of regular first-team football before putting pen to paper on an extension.

Reports claimed a few days ago that talks were underway, but the England international has had no contact with Arsenal over a new deal as of yet, which Wenger then confirmed.

When asked if talks over a new contract had begun, Wenger said:

‘No, it was his birthday (on New Year’s Day). I sent him a message.

‘The good news is Jack Wilshere will not play (on Tuesday) but is still good enough to give any team problems.’

Arsenal take on Bournemouth tonight, but Wilshere will be unavailable for selection for Eddie Howe’s side.
