Matthaus warns Arsenal about signing German star

|

Germany legend Lothar Matthaus has warned big clubs off signing Wolfsburg midfielder Julian Draxler.

The German international is expected to leave the Bundesliga side either in January or in the summer but has struggled for form this campaign since announcing his intention to leave the club.

Writing in his column for Sport Bild, Matthaus questioned Draxler’s character and his ability to play under pressure for a big club:

‘Let me be clear. As a big club I would not take Draxler currently. On the one hand, because of his weakness in character, and on the other hand because although he is talented, he has not yet proved he can make the difference at a high level consistently.’

German newspaper Bild have consistently linked Draxler with a move to Arsenal, Juventus or Paris Saint-Germain. They say the 23-year-old is a friend of Mesut Ozil, and would fit alongside the German on the left hand side of midfield.

PSG meanwhile wanted the player in the summer, and Juve could return for the midfielder after failing to sign the player when Draxler opted to move from Schalke to Wolsfburg for €36million back in 2015.

Draxler has made 12 appearances this season but has failed to score or provide a assist in any of them.
