Liverpool are considering a surprise swoop for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain next month.

The Guardian suggests Jurgen Klopp wants to bolster his squad depth and durability to maintain a challenge for the Premier League title.

Chamberlain has supposedly been identified as a potential target but the Merseyside club will be aware that signing the 23-year-old will be difficult, not only because Arsenal will not want to sell to a title rival, but the relationship between the two clubs have been strained following the infamous Luis Suarez saga back in 2013 where the north London club insulted Liverpool by offering £40 million plus £1 for the Uruguay international.

However, The Guardian claims Liverpool’s interest in Chamberlain is genuine, and the midfielder may be tempted by the prospect of playing for the dynamic Klopp having been in and out of the side this season for the Gunners.

Chamberlain has 18 months left to run on his existing Emirates deal and although Arsene Wenger stated earlier in the month that he is keen to keep the former Southampton man, the club appear to be in no rush to instigate talks over an extension.

Several clubs have been monitoring Chamberlain’s situation as of late, with Manchester City being linked with a move, and is valued in the region of £20-25 million.
