Sam Allardyce is monitoring Kieran Gibbs’ contract situation at Arsenal.

The newly appointed Crystal Palace manager is believed to be looking to sign a left-back and Gibbs has emerged as probable target with just 18 months left to run on his current deal at the Emirates.

The Sun reports that the 27-year-old left-back was on Palace’s radar before Allardyce took the reins at Selhurst Park, and it’s thought they could make a move for the England international when the January transfer window opens in a few days’ time.

It’s understood Arsenal are yet to approach Gibbs over a contract extension and Arsene Wenger will be aware that the player’s value will drop as his existing deal runs down.

Gibbs is currently behind Nacho Monreal in the pecking order and with no signs over a contract extension, the full-back may well consider his options open to him next month.

Swansea have also shown an interest, but the prospect of remaining in London and playing for a side more likely to be safe come the end of the season may be a more appealing option to Gibbs.
