Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes doesn’t know what to make of Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka.

The Switzerland international was Arsene Wenger’s first summer signings after the midfielder completed the switch to Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach for £33 million.

Xhaka made his Premier League debut in the opening fixture against Liverpool where the Gunners lost 4-3, and scored his first goal for his new club in their 4-1 win against Hull City.

Since then, Xhaka has started four of his last eight games for Arsenal in all competitions and netted a further two goals.

However, The Swiss defensive midfielder has also shown his lack of discipline since arriving to Arsenal by picking up three yellow cards and a red.

And speaking before Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham yesterday afternoon, Scholes gave his verdict on Xhaka:

‘I’m really not sure what Granit Xhaka is all about – yet.’

It’s a blunt analysis from the former England international to say the least, but I understand where he is coming from.

Having watched the north London derby, and previous outings, I don’t see what Xhaka offers the team? Especially when Francis Coquelin plays alongside him.

I don’t believe Wenger knows yet where Xhaka’s best position is on the field and who can bring out the best in him playing alongside the Swiss midfielder.

It’s still early days, but after nearly four months of watching Xhaka in an Arsenal shirt, I am still unsure about him.
