Arsenal needed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to dig them out of a bit of a hole last night.

Whilst they didn’t look under to much threat from Reading in the EFL Cup they also didn’t look like much of a threat as a much changed Gunners side relied on ‘The Ox’ to see them through to the quarter finals.

Job done, eventually, then, and for the former Southampton man a performance that will make people sit up and take note, here is a player that is ready to fight for his place.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has not enjoyed much playing time so far this season and has been in and out of the side as the likes of Alex Iwobi have emerged whilst Theo Walcott has excelled.

But, he looks like he’s just going to get on with it and force his way back into Arsene Wenger’s plans and we think these two reasons highlight why he should play against Sunderland this weekend…
