The fourth round of the EFL Cup is upon us with a place in the quarter final awaiting the winner.
The newly-named league cup hasn’t always earned respect, particularly in recent seasons due to hefty fixture lists but this year seems to have seen a chance with many managers desperate to win some silverware.
With the most competitive Premier League season seemingly upon us some clubs are going to be left empty handed with some high profile managers in charge receiving a bloody nose for their efforts.
That, then, suggests why the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea and the two Manchester clubs – six of the top seven in the table – are still going for the competition.
It’s time, then, for Arsene Wenger and his contemporaries to earn their salt with Arsenal in particular facing Reading. The Frenchman will want to win this game and manage his squad which is why he needs big performances from whoever he brings in.
It could be these two that he expects the most from tonight with this in mind…
