Quoted by The Metro, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that young Nigerian international can challenge for the number 10 spot in the Gunners side.

Mesut Ozil has been a regular starter in that position and has scored a number of goals, too. He’s managed a hat-trick in the Champions League against Ludogorets whilst he also bagged against Swansea and Chelsea in recent weeks to help secure Gunners wins but Wenger feels Iwobi could challenge him for his place.

Iwobi has been a fairly regular member of the first XI this season but usually playing down the left-flank instead of through the middle, Wenger thinks, though, he can play more centrally:

‘You see, he is not a typical winger and I think he can play in that [number 10] role. He turns the game forward, he passes the ball through the lines very well. He has a final ball in him. He is now a little bit, I think he has it all in the locker to pass and give the final ball.’

Iwobi is in double figures for appearances this season for the Emirates side and is in contention to start against Sunderland on the weekend though one of his competitors for his starting place, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, did score two in the EFL Cup against Reading and it remains to be seen if he now gets in Wenger’s plans.
