Have Arsenal got the strongest squad in the Premier League?

|

Former Arsenal player Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports in his EFL Cup preview that Arsenal have the strongest squad in the Premier League this season.

The Gunners play Reading this week as the newly-named competition reaches round four and many are expecting Arsene Wenger to make some changes ahead of the clash with the Royals.

Nicholas feels, however, that whatever changes the Frenchman does make will not impede on the overall performance of the side tonight. He said:

‘Arsenal have got the strongest squad in Premier League. The sort of players who come in here are experienced and should be ready to step up for the first team and seize on a disappointing result at the weekend. Olivier Giroud will probably get a run out and you’ve also got Lucas Perez, Kieran Gibbs, David Ospina, Rob Holding and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is looking more influential.’

The likes of Olivier Giroud and the new signing in the summer Lucas Perez have not featured that often this season with the Chilean Alexis Sanchez preferred by Wenger through the middle but with a 0-0 against Middlesbrough fresh in the side’s mind, Nicholas feels tonight could provide the chance for them to stake their claim.

Should the Gunners win against their Championship opposition at the Emirates they will be in the quarter finals of the competition with the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham and Manchester United and Manchester City playing each other this week.
