Should Wenger give him his first start of the season?

|

Olivier Giroud says he is back to full fitness and is ready to lead the line for the Gunners against Southampton this weekend, despite only playing 12 minutes of football so far this season.

The French striker was given an extended break after reaching the final of Euro 2016 with France over the summer and has yet to start for Arsenal this season.

However, the 29-year-old insists he is raring to go after scoring against Italy on international duty last week.:

‘It is down to a lack of training since I got back from holiday.

‘It if had been a priority, the manager would have asked me to come back sooner. That wasn’t the case. Don’t worry, everything is fine. I’m used to people doubting me. Since the start of my career, it has been the same.

‘Maybe I need that so I don’t get too comfortable but between last season and the Euros, I’ve got no reason to doubt myself.’

Whilst Giroud was resting, Arsene Wenger opted to elect Alexis Sanchez to lead the line for the Gunners, and delivered against Watford before the international break

However, Wenger did manage to sign a striker in Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna this summer, and the Spaniard is also in contention to spearhead the attack

But with Giroud viewed as Arsenal’s priority striker and insisting he is raring to go, should Wenger give the Frenchman his first start of the season against Southampton this weekend?
