Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has taken the positives out of a hard-fought clash with Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup, stating that his side played well.

The French coach rotated his squad heavily for the clash at the City Ground, which could well have proved more difficult in different circumstances.

Striker Lucas Perez netted a brace in his side’s 4-0 win, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Granit Xhaka also found the back of the net for the visitors.

Wenger has stated that there were three main positives in the victory, apart from the fact that the Gunners will now be in the draw for the next round of the cup competition.

“We got there in the end but the game was tough, Nottingham Forest played with full commitment,” he told the club’s official website.

“We needed to be patient and as well not to concede a goal – which we did well.

“Overall I felt that technically we played well, our combinations worked well and we played at a high pace and that’s where we made the difference in the game.”

Arsenal’s priority will be focussing on the Premier League, in which the North London side have won their last three consecutive games.

A mouth-watering clash with fellow title hopefuls Chelsea is next up for the Gunners, with the Premier League powerhouses to clash at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
