Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made a big statement on his potential successor, stating that whoever takes over from him in the future will be up against it to last long at the Emirates Stadium.

The Frenchman has transformed the North London club over a prolonged period and is the longest-serving manager in the Premier League by some distance.

However, with the veteran coach not getting any younger, the Gunners fans have questioned when the former Monaco boss will step down from his current role at the club.

Although Wenger is believed to be ready to continue for some time yet, there will surely be a contingency plan being put in place to see a new man take over once the French chief is ready to take a step back.

The Gunners supremo has admitted that there is a growing trend in club football for managers to be sacked with alarming regularity and his successor will have to do something special to get anywhere near as long at Arsenal as he has had.

“I can imagine another manager staying for 20 years, but it is very unlikely,” Wenger told BeIN Sports.

“Football is changing very quickly. Society has changed and people are now very demanding.

“People are more opinionated and want to be more involved in the current affairs of a club.

“They want to decide much more. But there’s nothing more dangerous than superficial knowledge and inside a club now you need to be stronger than ever and not make stupid decisions.

“You have to respect a club’s guidelines and have strong personalities inside.”
