Pundit Rio Ferdinand has stated that Alexis Sanchez must go down as one of Arsene Wenger’s best signings over the years at Arsenal and that the Chile international is an essential player for the North London club.
The former Barcelona attacker moved to the Emirates Stadium from Camp Nou in 2014 and has been a revelation in the final third in the Premier League.
Sanchez is best utilised on the left flank but in the absence of Olivier Giroud the South American has operated as the furthest man forward in recent weeks with aplomb.
The gifted forward opened the scoring for the Gunners at the weekend in a 3-0 win over Chelsea and looks extremely likely to retain his centre forward role for the visit of FC Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Ferdinand has been singing Sanchez’s praises and picked out the attacker’s goal return as another testament to his considerable abilities.
“It is impressive to see that Sanchez has scored 47 goals in his first 100 appearances for the club,” he told the London Evening Standard.
“There is no doubt that with a statistic like that, he has to be regarded as one of Wenger’s finest buys.”
