Koscielny gives verdict on Arsenal draw, praises team-mate

|

Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny has stated that a 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night was a positive result for the Gunners and has picked out Alexis Sanchez for specific praise.

The powerful centre-half overcame being kicked in the face against Southampton at the weekend to feature alongside new boy Shkodran Mustafi in the Gunners defence for the Champions League fixture.

Although Arsenal conceded in the first minute courtesy of an Edinson Cavani strike, Arsene Wenger’s men rallied and Sanchez snatched a point for the English side with a late effort.

Koscielny has stated that travelling to the French capital was always going to be a tough task and that a draw sets the Emirates Stadium side up well to progress in Group A.

“I think it’s a good point but we came here with our ambition and we wanted to have the three points, but when we start like this it’s difficult to play,” The Daily Star quote the defender as saying.

“Maybe in the final third we didn’t find the good ball to score, but we came back. During the game against Southampton in the Premier League we slept and we need to change this in the future. We need to be strong from the first minute to the end.

“During the game we were pretty well but if you start like this it’s difficult. Sanchez played well. We found him between the lines. Both teams tried to play nice football tonight. It was a good game.”

Koscielny’s importance to Arsenal cannot be understated, with the France international crucial in helping Mustafi adapt to English football and a new environment.

Arsenal face Hull in the Premier League this weekend and will hope to build on consecutive domestic victories.
