Pundit Martin Keown has compared Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal great Thierry Henry after the Chilean played a crucial role in the side’s 3-0 win over Chelsea at the weekend.
The Gunners started the new campaign slowly but have now won their last four Premier League games to get back on track, with the victory over the Blues very impressive.
Sanchez is best deployed on the left flank but has been deputising for Olivier Giroud as the team’s central striker over the last couple of games.
The South American hitman got his name on the scoresheet against Chelsea, opening the scoring in an excellent first half for the North London hosts.
Keown was quick to hail Sanchez’s abilities and compared him to Gunners great Thierry Henry for his style of play and explosive pace.
“It was a fantastic team performance,” Keown told BBC One’s Match Of The Day.
“Alexis Sanchez is the icing on the cake.
“I haven’t seen any of this quality for years. Thierry Henry was the last person I saw with this type of pace and quality.”
“It takes a lot of things to be champions but you have to have a player at the top of the team that everyone can believe in. They certainly believe in him at the moment.”
Sanchez has been a sensation since moving to Arsenal from Barcelona two years ago and the North London club are believed to be currently trying to tie the Chile international down to a new contract.
