Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson is set to return to first-team training with the North London club on Monday after a prolonged spell on the sidelines.

The former Charlton Athletic full-back has been out of action since January with a cruciate knee injury and has been working hard to get back to fitness.

After undergoing rehabilitation, Jenkinson has revealed on Twitter that he is excited to get back into the first-team fold at training this week.

The once-capped England international has spent two consecutive seasons on loan at West Ham, with his injury cutting the second stint short last term.

Jenkinson will find the presence of Hector Bellerin as a significant obstacle in his route into the Arsenal first team but the 24-year-old is likely to be the Spaniard’s deputy.

The attack-minded full-back will add strength in depth to the Gunners squad but it remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger opts to loan him out again this term.
