Arsenal are set to offer Jack Wilshere a new contract to extend his time at the North London club despite the fact he is not part of Arsene Wenger’s first-team plans this season, The Sun report.

The England international has been plagued by consistent injuries over recent seasons and has spent more time on the sidelines than on the pitch of late.

With the signings of Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka this year, the homegrown playmaker has slipped down Wenger’s preferences at the Emirates Stadium and will spend the campaign on loan at Premier League rivals Bournemouth.

However, the latest report suggests that the French manager sees Wilshere as a firm part of his future plans and the temporary stint at the Vitality Stadium will not lead to a permanent exit.

The Englishman could well be offered an extended deal to tie him to his boyhood club, with the potential for him to return to the Gunners first-team fold fit and firing next season.
