Arsenal need only look at London rivals Chelsea to understand the advantages of the loan system.

Whilst the Blues will be undoubtedly disappointed by the scarcity in which their farmed-out youngsters graduate to the first team, loan moves have added enormous value to a number of their prospects in the past – with Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku being the predominant examples.

That’s not to say Arsenal haven’t benefited; Hector Bellerin and Francis Coquelin both enjoyed temporary spells in the Championship before establishing themselves as a regulars in the Gunners’ starting line-up.
