Arsenal’s start to the season has been underwhelming to say the least. Granted, the Gunners were handed a tricky opening double header in the shape of Liverpool at home and Leicester away, but a return of one point and four goals conceded is far from impressive when you consider that both opponents have lost their other matches against Burnley and Hull respectively.

Injuries have played their part in Arsene Wenger’s side stuttering ahead of their trip to Watford, but there have also been some wobbly individual performances from senior players.

Arsenal updated

As we can see, Petr Cech has returned only 9.75 points-per-game. Okay, the Czech stopper can only perform as well as the players in front of him allow, but Wenger would surely have hoped to see his goalie keep at least one of Liverpool’s four efforts out of his net at the Emirates Stadium, with Adam Lallana’s strike the tamest of the quartet.

On the same return of points on average, £30m+ signing Granit Xhaka hasn’t shone. The Swiss star had a debut to forget when he came on against Liverpool, and although his performance at Leicester showed signs of promise, there’s still a long way to go.

Alexis Sanchez is, perhaps, the most underwhelming of the lot though, with 10.16-points-a-game so far. The Chilean has been leading the line for the Gunners, so most expected him to at least get in on the goalscoring and assists action, but he’s yet to make a notable contribution.

At the other end of the scale, Theo Walcott’s 29-points-a-game is a great return, while Nacho Monreal with 21.5-a-game is a solid option in defence.
