Arsenal have made a major breakthrough in their attempt to sign Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia, with The Guardian reporting that the sides have agreed on a £35 million fee.

The Germany international has been linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium over the last couple of weeks and months, but negotiations have been tough going for the North London club.

With the Spaniards stating that Mustafi was not for sale, it was believed that Arsenal would have to pay his release clause in order to land their man this summer.

However, the latest report suggests that the Gunners have talked the La Liga side down to £35 million – still a considerable outlay for the Premier League side.

It’s understood that the former Sampdoria man will fly to England for a medical in the near future.

Arsenal are currently without Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista due to injuries, leaving Arsene Wenger short of options at the back.
