Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stated that the club are well covered in midfield, which suggests that a move for Newcastle enforcer Moussa Sissoko is unlikely.

The North London outfit have already signed Granit Xhaka early this summer and now have a competitive number of players to contest two positions in the boiler room.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Sissoko, who is available after Newcastle United were relegated from the Premier League last season.

The France international starred at Euro 2016 and as a result a host of European teams are said to be weighing up a move for the all-action star.

Wenger’s latest comments suggest that Arsenal will not be one of Sissoko’s suitors however, with a plethora of options for the boss in central midfield.

“We lost three midfielders: Flamini, Rosicky and Arteta, and numbers-wise we are quite solid in midfield now,” he told the club’s official website.

“Elneny had a big impact when he came here, Coquelin was injured for a long time and is back. Cazorla will come back, Wilshere is back so we are solid in midfield.”

Reports in the British press this week have suggested that Arsenal were willing to pay £20 million for Sissoko, but Newcastle were holding out for a bigger fee.
