Arsenal have been approached by French club Bordeaux over the possibility of extending Mathieu Debuchy’s loan stint in Ligue 1 into 2016-17, according to Sky Sports.

The France international right-back moved to the Emirates Stadium from Newcastle in 2014 to replace Bacary Sagna and initially impressed for Arsene Wenger’s men.

However, the dramatic emergence of Hector Bellerin has seen Debuchy reduced to fringe status, with the Spaniard now one of the best right-backs in the Premier League having made the position his own.

Debuchy became frustrated with his lack of first-team football last term, which saw him miss out on representing France at Euro 2016 on home soil.

The defender spent the second half of last season on loan at Bordeaux, with the Ligue 1 side reportedly eager to renew his stint with the club as the new season looms.

Debuchy is currently on the North London club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
