Would three signings be enough for Arsenal?

Arsene Wenger will only sign another two more players this summer as he does not want to ‘destabilise’ the squad.

The Gunners have already managed to sign midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach for a reported £30 million, and are yet to hear from Jamie Vardy after triggering his £20 million release clause.

However, Wenger believes Vardy will snub a move to Arsenal and remain at Leicester City, meaning the Frenchman will have to look elsewhere if he wants to bring in a new striker.

And while many of the Emirates faithful will hoping for a major overhaul and new faces to join the club, Wenger does not plan to offload current members of the squad and will only sign two more players this summer:

‘We’ve already bought one player Xhaka from Monchengladbach. So we’ve bought one midfielder and we’re still on the market to buy one or two more players. But it is not easy.

‘It is not just buying. We also have to keep a good balance. If you buy too many players you destabilise your team. So three is the maximum.’

So it seems Wenger will only look to bring in a maximum of two more players from now until the end of August, but what areas should the Frenchman be looking at to strengthen.

It is evidently clear that Wenger wants to bring in a new forward after watching Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud struggle for form, while Danny Welbeck endured a difficult season with injuries, and the Arsenal fans will be happy to see the Frenchman address this.

Another area that could do with reinforcements is the defence, especially the centre-back department. Per Mertesacker is on his last legs and while Gabriel did a decent job last season, we are yet to see if he can become Laurent Koscielny’s regular partner at the back.

These are my thoughts on what two areas could do with improvement, and bringing in a new striker and centre-back, or a versatile defender, would certainly enhance the squad and give it more depth.

So if Wenger is eyeing up two more signings, what particular area of the side should he look to strengthen?
