Mario GotzeMario Gotze would prefer a move to Arsenal rather than Liverpool, according to reports.

It is understood that the 23-year-old playmaker is ready to call it quits at Bayern Munich this summer, having made just 14 Bundesliga appearances last season.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with the German international with Jurgen Klopp keen to once again work with the Dortmund player.

But while Liverpool remain hopeful of landing Gotze, German publication SportBild, as reported by talkSPORT.com, it is thought he would prefer a move to Arsenal or another club who will compete in the Champions League next season as reports suggest a move to Liverpool this summer would be a step down from Bayern.

Technically gifted and boasting great awareness, Gotze will undoubtedly attract interest from several top teams in Europe, if he decides to leave Bayern Munich this summer.

However, is he what Arsenal truly need? In a word, yes!

Gotze would quite easily cement a starting role in the current Arsenal XI next season, and with Theo Walcott’s and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future in doubt at the Emirates, the German would be an upgrade to what we have at the club.

Of course, there are more pressing matters to attend to during the transfer period, like signing a top striker and centre-back, but Arsene Wenger cannot afford to let the services of Gotze, who is viewed as one of Europe’s brightest talents, slip through his hands – I at least want the Frenchman to attempt to sign him!
