Jamie VardySo Arsenal are expected to complete the shock signing of Jamie Vardy within the next 24 hours, if reports are to be believed.

The Gunners triggered the £20 million release clause in the England international’s contract and it seems Vardy is up for the new challenge ahead with formalities now left to complete the move.

It is understood the striker has decided to join Arsene Wenger’s side knowing it could be his last chance to join a reputable club like Arsenal. In addition, it is thought Vardy wants a four-year deal in excess of £100,000-a-week, which Wenger is likely to grant him.

Vardy netted 24 goals in 36 Premier League appearances last season for Leicester City which certainly contributed to them lifting the title.

Known for his pace, determination and piercing eye for goals, a striker of Vardy’s calibre would certainly upgrade Arsenal’s striker-force next season.

However, despite his form last season, many believe the imminent arrival of the forward is a panic buy by Wenger.

I have also heard from several fans that I have spoken to and Tweets on Twitter, that Vardy would not suit Arsenal’s style of play. Personally, I don’t understand why some are questioning whether he can replicate his form which saw him break into the England squad and is on his way to Euro 2016, which starts next week Friday. Vardy was playing with the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Danny Drinkwater, whom both hugely contributed to Vardy banging in the goals, so imagine what he can do with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla creating and providing his chances.

The only thing I have against this move is that Vardy is nearing the age of 30 and may not be the same player he was under Claudio Ranieri at Leicester last season – this is why it will probably be viewed as a gamble and panic buy by the club from several pundits in the game and a section of the Arsenal faithful.
