Jamie Vardy’s move from Leicester City to Arsenal looks to be edging closer and will more than likely be completed before Euro 2016 starts on Friday.
If you don’t already know, or have been living under a rock in the past couple of days, the Gunners activated the England international’s £20 million release clause and are set to offer him a four-year deal worth £120,000-a-week. So in theory, if it is indeed a four-year deal as reported, Arsenal will be spending a total of £25,760,000 for the 29-year-old striker.
Many thought the proposed move was merely just a rumour, but now even Arsenal players are talking openly to the media about it.
Olivier Giroud told Sky Sports News:
‘I have been told that Jamie wants to join us and its very good news for us. I think we can be complimentary and that’s all I can say,
‘He’s a fantastic player, so it’s good news for us.’
It was reported the move could be completed before the weekend ends, so today could be the day Vardy is officially named an Arsenal player. Let’s hope so.
If Arsenal do get Vardy over the line, it will be there second signing of the summer already, having landed Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach – to the delight of the Emirates faithful, Arsene Wenger is moving quickly and getting deals done early for once.
