Gunners to battle Napoli for Ligue 1 midfielder

|

Corentin TolissoArsenal are tracking France Under-21 international Corentin Tolisso, according to reports.

The Lyon midfielder has emerged as one of the brightest talents currently operating in Ligue 1, making 45 appearances in all competitions and contributing seven goals and seven assists for Bruno Genesio’s side.

French publication L’Equipe now claims the 21-year-old has attracted the attention of Arsene Wenger and was also being tracked last season from the Arsenal scout team.

Napoli are also reportedly keen on Tolisso and the Italian club president Aurelio De Laurentiis is preparing to make a £12 million offer for the French youngster.

However, it is believed Tolisso would favour a move to Arsenal, who are in need of midfield reinforcements this summer following the imminent exits of Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini after seeing their contracts out.

According to Transfermarkt.com, Tolisso is valued at just under £6 million but only extended his stay at Lyon this time last year until 2020.

Not much will be known about the French midfielder, who can also play as an emergency right-back, to the Arsenal faithful. But if one person is to know of the player’s qualities, it will surely be Wenger and those scouts who watched him action last season.

Wenger has already added Granit Xhaka to his midfield ranks this summer and bringing in Tolisso would only be seen as a player for the future.
