After their much publicised 2015 summer transfer window, spending virtually zero with the exception of the recent golden glove winner Petr Cech, Arsenal are under the pump to spend big this summer, and with good reason.
Coming second this season after a fade-out that has characterised Arsenal’s title challenges over the past 10 years, they’ve been hit even worse than usual by a dose of injuries and players in poor form. And short of consistently relying on Meszut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez which is what they’ve done this year, they need players who will share the load, players which they don’t currently have.
With Wenger having approximately £150m in the bank after a summer of not spending last year, he’s practically got a licence to spend big on a star of Arsene’s choosing. However it is very much a double edged sword as if he does spend money, he’ll be expected to win the league next year, especially after doing so well with the team he currently has.
In saying that, Arsene has the best opportunity to scout new talent over a jam-packed summer and after receiving so much flack from the Gooner faithful, he will want to at least make a few new additions to the Arsenal team sheet for the start of next season.
