ChambersCalum Chambers looks set to be sent out on loan next season, with Arsene Wenger keen for the young defender to get games under his belt as well as search for a new centre-back this summer.

The Gunners signed Chambers for a reported £16 million from Southampton in 2014, and despite a promising start to his Arsenal career, the 21-year-old endured a frustrating second season at the Emirates, starting games in the FA Cup and playing just over 50 minutes in the Premier League coming off from the bench.

As a result of his lack of game time, Chambers has also seen his international career come to a standstill under Roy Hodgson, despite making a steady start in an England shirt two years ago.

And now, according to the Telegraph, Wenger is keen to bolster his defensive options this summer, meaning he may allow Chambers to go out on a season-long loan.

Premier League clubs were keen to take Chambers off Wenger’s hand last season, but the Frenchman opted against it. However, it is thought that the young defender was being scouted by former club Southampton, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Swansea and Watford during the Toulon Tournament.

Wenger will highly unlikely agree to sell Chambers, with the England international viewed by the Frenchman and fans as a future centre-back despite establishing his reputation as a right-back. He has also featured as a holding midfielder last season, where he did a sufficient job and perhaps could see himself playing for the Gunners as he develops.

If Wenger does manage to sign a centre-back this summer, then Chambers must be loaned out, as another season sitting on the bench will not do him any good. There will certainly be interest in his services should Wenger decide to put him on the loan market this summer.
