Here are my Arsenal player ratings from tonight’s 0-0 draw against Southampton:
Petr Cech – Fairly comfortable night for the experienced goalkeeper. Distribution was good and wasn’t really threatened. 6/10
Hector Bellerin – Looks a bit disjointed at the moment and possibly in need of a rest. 5/10
Gabriel – did good alongside Koscielny with both covering each other. Was a bit rash in some challenges and could have given a pen away had Sadio Mane falling to the deck. 6/10
Laurent Koscielny – A commanding display from the centre-back but missed a sitter in the second-half to put the Gunners 1-0 up. 6/10
Nacho Monreal – Was superb defensively and also did well going forward. 6.5/10
Mathieu Flamini – Did what a defensive midfielder has to do – win back possession and protect the back four. 5/10
Aaron Ramsey – Worked hard to win back possession and always wanted the ball, but did nothing effective with it. 4/10
Joel Campbell – Made some decent runs forward to open up space but wasn’t at the races today. 5/10
Alexis Sanchez – The Chilean showcased his energy and pace once again and was a danger to Southampton’s defence, especially in the latter stages of the game. Needs to release the ball earlier. 6.5/10
Mesut Ozil – Was effective throughout and always looked to create. Missed two great chances in the opening 20 minutes though. 7/10
Olivier Giroud – Slow start from the French striker but picked up in the second. Had a handful of chances on goal but couldn’t find the back of the net with at least one. 5.5/10
SUBS:
Theo Walcott – Replaced Campbell in the 62nd minute and squandered two decent efforts to put Arsenal ahead. Fairly ineffectual after this. 5/10
Francis Coquelin – On for Flamini with six minutes left to play. Got booked. N/A
Arsenal unknown course has started again
