Wojciech SzczesnyEverton are preparing for life after Tim Howard by setting their sights on Wojciech Szczesny, according to reports.

The 36-year-old American’s position at Everton is believed to be under threat after a shaky start to the season and has been linked with a move back to his home country with Colorado Rapids understood to be interested in his services.

Should Howard decide to call it quits after six years at the Merseyside club over the summer then Roberto Martinez will look to replace him with Szczesny.

The 25-year-old was offloaded to Roma last summer on a season-long loan after the Gunners managed to land Petr Cech from Chelsea for £10 million.

Despite a promising season so far with Roma, Szczesny, who has made 181 appearances for Arsenal since his debut in 2009, is expected to return to the Emirates this summer after the Serie A club decided not to sign him on a permanent deal.

With David Ospina expected to be sold over the summer, Szczesny would become Cech’s understudy.

However, the Poland international will not be happy warming the bench next season (hence his season-long loan spell this term) and may see him out the exit door when he returns from Italy.
