Arsenal are set to go head-to-head with Real Madrid over the signing of Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, according to reports in Spain.

The 21-year-old is highly rated in Spain and is currently on loan at Real Valladolid, where he has made 20 appearances so far for the Segunda Division club.

Don Balon now claim the Gunners are keeping tabs on Arrizabalaga, but may have to fend off Real Madrid for his signature this summer.

It is thought that Arsene Wenger wants to bring in a long-term successor to Petr Cech, with Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina yet to convince the Frenchman that either are capable of doing so.

Although Arrizabalaga is contracted to Bilbao until summer 2018, the La Liga side may be tempted to sell should an irresistible offer come in from Arsenal.

Personally, I don’t see the need for Arsenal to bring in another goalkeeper. Szczesny and Ospina are good enough back-up options to Cech, and youngster Damian Martinez looks to be a promising prospect for the future.
