Wojciech SzczesnyA couple of days ago, the Daily Mirror claimed that Wojciech Szczesny would be heading back to Arsenal at the end of the season.

The Poland international is currently seeing out a season-long loan with Roma, with the Serie A side believed to have an option in the deal to make it a permanent one over the summer.

Roma are reportedly keen to sign a goalkeeper, but Arsenal have now told them that they want Szczesny back at the Emirates to be Petr Cech’s understudy.

Cech’s arrival over the summer meant Szczesny had to be loaned out in order to get regular game time, while David Ospina was kept at the club to deputise for the former Chelsea shot-stopper should he need a rest or be unavailable for any reason.

Unfortunately for Ospina, the Colombian has had to watch the majority of the season from the bench, after Cech quickly and firmly established himself as Arsene Wenger’s number one goalkeeper since his move from Chelsea last summer.

With Szczesny set to return at the end of the current campaign after its been suggested that Roma are now set to sign Brazilian keeper Alisson, it means Ospina could be on his way out, with the Pole set to take his place as the understudy.

But would this be a wise move by Wenger to bring back Woj?

The reason why Szczesny left in the place was because Wenger knew the Pole wouldn’t get the game time required to keep him happy, hence his loan move to Roma – so what will be different next term?

If Ospina, who many Arsenal fans deem better than Szczesny, has struggled to feature regularly and compete with Cech for the number one spot, what chance does the latter have next season?
