ArtetaWest Ham are currently talking to Arsenal over the possibility of signing Mikel Arteta, according to reports in Spain.

The Arsenal captain has barely featured for the Gunners this season due to his personal injuries and the emergence of Francis Coquelin. And with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, it’s been suggested that Arsene Wenger will not offer him a new deal to remain at the Emirates past the summer.

Spanish publication Fichajes now claims the Hammers are interested in the 33-year-old midfielder and are willing to snap him up this month rather than on a free over the summer, with Slaven Bilic keen to bolster his squad.

I highly doubt Wenger will allow Arteta to leave this month as the Frenchman is short of options in midfield as it is. Although the Spaniard is not being used on a regular basis in the Premier League, his services could prove handy for the remainder of the season with the club still challenging in the FA Cup and Champions League.

Not really sure that this story has much in it if I’m honest. As I can’t see how he fits in with what we are trying to achieve.

Don’t get me wrong Arteta is a good player but age and injuries seem to be catching up with him. And as we are now pursuing a policy of signing quality young exciting talent, I just don’t see where he would fit in.

There are for the money far younger and far better prospects out there imo.

Non starter this. He’d just go from not making the Gunners squad to not making ours either. CDM/CM is not a position we have any lack of depth in.

bench player at best wouldn’t make the team west ham are fully stocked midfield, we have noble, Kouyate, Payet, Obiang, Oxford can play there also as a DM and we also have Antonio and Moses who are coming back from injury that can play there too, his age will be his downfall, 33 is too old for our squad, I doubt we will bother signing such an old player even though he isn’t a bad player. BUT the problem is that he can’t even get first team football for arsenal, which tells you something about his fitness or his inability to be relied on
