Arsenal want to sign Leicester City teenager Ben Chilwell before the transfer window closes rather than risk losing the highly-rated left-back to a potential rival, reports the Daily Mirror.
The 19-year-old, who has made just four appearances for Claudio Ranieri’s side so far this season, is also reportedly being chased by Liverpool and Manchester City.
However, Leicester are keen to keep hold of the England Under-21 international and have offered him a new deal.
Reports claim the Gunners had a £3 million bid turned down last summer but are preparing another offer for the youngster as they look to bolster their squad.
Wenger managed to get Nacho Monreal to put pen to paper on a new deal but could risk losing the services of Kieran Gibbs, who is behind the Spaniard in the pecking order and is believed to want regular first-team football. With this in mind, Wenger appears to want to have a contingency plan put into place and sees Chilwell as an ideal understudy to Monreal, and a player who may have a bright future ahead of him.
Who do Arsenal think they are Chilwell’s been at Leicester since he was ten! He’s one of US. And will one day play for England.
