Granit XhakaGranit Xhaka has hinted he could be on his way to Arsenal to take Francis Coquelin’s shirt number.

The 23-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga side in recent week, with Arsenal reportedly keen on his services. But speculation has somewhat faded since the Gunners brought in Mohamed Eneny from Basel last week.

However, in an interview with German publication Tor Fabrik, Xhaka revealed his desire to one-day play in the Premier League, and also admitted he would like to wear the number 34 shirt at Arsenal:

‘That [34] was my first professional number at Basel. It’s even tattooed on my back. I would also like to wear it in the future.

‘It was also here in Gladbach, with Amin Younes. And at Arsenal Coquelin has it.

‘I’ve spoken with him (Coquelin), he would like to take another number.’

Although Xhaka’s last comment was somewhat of a joke, the midfielder is thinking about Arsenal – which is a good thing if you are a fan of the player.

The Switzerland international has made 23 appearances in all competitions so far this season for Borussia Monchengladbach and is supposedly rated at £37 million, which Arsenal are considering splashing out this summer to sign him.
