The £6M man to fill Coquelin’s boots?

|

Mario SuarezReports in Italy claim Mario Suarez is struggling to settle at Fiorentina, with the Serie A club ready to cut their losses on the Spaniard – should Arsenal offer him a lifeline this January?

Despite Suarez, 28, only moving to Fiorentina over the summer from Atletico Madrid, reports suggest he is unsettled and struggling for regular first-team action under Paulo Sousa.

Calciomercato, as reported by talkSPORT.com, now claim the Florence club are ready to listen to offers for the defensive midfielder, but only if their £6 million valuation is met, despite splashing out £10.5 million for his services.

So with Arsenal in dire need of a defensive midfielder coming in this January and knowing Francis Coquelin is out for at least two months, should they rival Liverpool, who are also reportedly keen on the Spain international, for his signature?

There’s no doubt about it, the Gunners do have to sign a midfield enforcer when the winter window opens next month, and Suarez for £6 million should definitely be considered as a potential recruit.

The Spain international possesses experience both in Europe and in domestic competitions, is tenacious off the ball and keeps his position well due to his impressive reading of the game.

He might not be everyone’s first-choice to come in and fill Coquelin’s boots, but for £6 million, Suarez would represent a decent purchase for the Gunners.

    Arsenal do not need a player who isn’t good enough to play DM at Fiorentina. They need a top player.

    The DM Arsenal sign needs to be;

    1. Someone who can step in at once and compete with Coquelin for the job next year – Adrien Rabiot or William Carvalho come to mind. Perhaps Calum Chambers can do the job there.
    2. A top, top player coming to the end of his career ( the role Gareth Barry plays at Everton) Thiago Motta from PSG or Jeremy Toulalon from Monaco might do the trick.
    3. A top class player who will come in and make the position his own for the next 5-7 years. Javier Martinez/Paul Pogba would be first choices – Martinez is the more likely, Pogba the more desirable.
