James MaddisonArsenal and Liverpool are set to go head-to-head with each other over the signing of Coventry City starlet James Maddison.

The 19-year-old has been in impressive form for the League One side as well as one of the standout players in the division and could be heading out of the Ricoh Arena when the January transfer window opens, according to reports.

But should either Arsenal or Liverpool manage to sign him, it is believed he will head straight back to Coventry on loan for the remainder of the season.

Reports suggests the Gunners could end up paying of up to £10 million for Maddison’s services this winter.

In the past, Arsenal have managed to snap up young talent, predominately from Barcelona, but do have the likes of Carl Jenkinson, who they bought from Charlton for a mere £1 million back in 2011, and is currently on loan at West Ham.

Although Maddison still has three-years left to run on his current deal at Coventry City, it may prove difficult for the Sky Blues to keep hold of their starlet, knowing that financial benefit and the lure of either Arsenal or Liverpool could be too good to turn down for the young midfielder.
