MichuMany Arsenal fans and pundits alike believe Arsene Wenger has to sign a striker when the January transfer window opens.

Despite the calls for a new forward to come in, Wenger opted against it, even though he knew that Danny Welbeck would be unavailable until Christmas, which rightly bemused and frustrated fans.

In not bringing in a forward, Wenger put his trust in Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott and to be fair, both have delivered on different occasions. However, some still believe they need more depth upfront, and I agree.

But who can they get?

Well there is someone they can sign right away – Michu.

The Swansea striker has left Garry Monk’s side by mutual consent having joined them in the summer of 2012 from Rayo Vallecano.

In his debut season at the Liberty Stadium, the Spaniard became an instant hit in the Premier League, netting 22 goals in all competitions. His form that season reportedly attracted the attentions of Arsenal, but no move materialized.

Instead, Michu surprisingly fell out of favour at Swansea and spent last season on loan at Napoli, where he only made five appearances and failed to find the back of the net.

But would a Bosman transfer for Michu be a good one for Arsenal take? Well I believe it’s one we should consider.

The Spanish forward, who can also play in the attacking midfielder role, already has Premier League experience and is decent finisher. His wages wouldn’t pose a problem, as he reportedly pocketed £40k-a-week at Swansea, and his potential addition would certainly add depth to our attacking options.

I’m not saying he would win us the title if he was signed, but his inclusion would be seen as a bargain and a player who could add something to the current squad.
