Wojciech SzczesnyRoma are ‘working’ to keep Wojciech Szczesny beyond his loan spell.

The 25-year-old Poland international is currently on a season-long loan at the Serie A club and has made 13 appearances in all competitions so far.

But Szczesny has recently expressed his desire to return to Arsenal next summer to compete with Petr Cech for the number one spot, but only if Arsene Wenger wants him at the club.

The Pole has impressed at Roma thus far, with sporting director Walter Sabatini working to sign the goalkeeper on a permanent deal:

‘We are working on it and would like to keep Szczesny, but knowing Arsenal it will be difficult to achieve that.’

Will Szczesny be at Roma next summer? I don’t think so.

Cech will undoubtedly be Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper next season, but Szczesny will certainly give the former Chelsea goalkeeper a run for his money, if of course Wenger decides to keep the Pole at the club.

With David Ospina out-of-favour after his woeful display against Olympiacos and Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions league earlier in the season, I think the Colombian will be shown the door next summer – this will leave room for Szczesny to return and compete with Cech for the starting position in the side.
