Alejandro GrimaldoArsenal are in pole position to sign Barcelona B captain Alex Grimaldo, according to the Daily Mirror.

The highly-rated 20-year-old has also attracted the interest of Bayern Munich, with the left-back keen for first-team action.

Barcelona B were relegated from Spain’s Segunda last season, meaning Grimaldo now plies his trade in the Spanish third division.

Sporting director, Robert Fernandez, this week stated the youngster isn’t willing to sign a new deal with the club and the Mirror suggests Barcelona would be his preferred destination, but only if he is guaranteed promotion into the first-team.

Grimaldo may well be promoted to the first-team but may not be guaranteed regular football, with Jordi Alba the club’s first-choice left-back.

Arsenal are keeping tabs on his situation and have previous with poaching La Masia’s finest young talent with the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Hector Bellerin leaving Barca in search of regular first-team football.

Grimaldo’s current deal expires in the summer and has an option to extend his stay for another year at Barcelona B, but this looks highly unlikely.

Could Arsenal do with another left-back joining the club this winter?
