karim benzemaOlivier Giroud has admitted he would have liked to seen Karim Benzema join him at Arsenal this summer.

It’s been well documented that the Gunners have been pursuing the Real Madrid forward this summer, but the 27-year-old put an end to all the rumours linking him with a move to Arsenal by claiming, vis his Twitter account, that Real is his ‘home’.

Arsene Wenger is thought to want to add a new striker to the squad, but the Frenchman only has until 6pm tomorrow to do so.

And Giroud, who has netted just the one goal so far this season, says it’s a shame Benzema opted to remain at Madrid rather than join him in North London – despite previously claiming that the club don’t need to bring add attacking reinforcements:

‘It is true that every year here there is speculation about a new striker signing.

‘There were seasons when we signed Sanchez and Welbeck, others when we were talking about Suarez.

‘It is obvious that in a club, a team, where a lot is expected, we need several good attackers and I understand that the fans want that we spend more money.

‘We have a very good squad, with quality, and I am sure that with this squad we can go very far.

‘Aside from that, it would have been good if Karim had signed too, eh?’

It would have been great to see Benzema arrive this summer – it certainly would’ve appeased the fans – but it’s not going to happen and the club need to move on.

With the summer transfer window closing tomorrow evening, believe it or not, Wenger still has time to find a striker that can complement the side and give them the attacking edge that can hopeful push them all the way to the title this season.

Fingers crossed.
