The summer transfer window is the ideal time for young talents to go out on loan for the season in order to gain first-team experience.
Arsene Wenger has often sent his young academy products out on loan before getting their shot in the first-team – Francis Coquelin and Jack Wilshere are just two examples of this – with the former sealing several loan moves away before breaking into the starting line-up last season, while the latter joined Bolton in 2010 and has featured for Arsenal since.
Wenger will more than likely attempt to seal a few loan moves for a number of youngsters this summer, but one starlet that will not be leaving on a temporary basis is Alex Iwobi.
Iwobi, 19, impressed in Saturday’s 6-0 Emirates Cup hammering of Lyon and also managed to get on the scoresheet.
And while many would like to see the Nigerian-born teenager play regularly elsewhere to develop his talent and gain further first-team experience, Wenger says Iwobi will not be going anywhere, hinting that he could even feature for the senior side this season:
‘Some players might go out on loan but at the moment Alex Iwobi will stay with us.
‘But for the other young players I have to decide if they need an experience somewhere to play for a first team on a regular basis to finish their education.
‘It’s always difficult to decide that because if they go out then don’t play, they waste their time because here they practice with top-level players. So that’s always very sensitive.’
So, should Wenger loan Iwobi out for the season in order for the youngster to play regular first-team football? Or should the Frenchman keep him at the club and learn from the first-team players?
I feel such a talent should get regular playing hours.
Sending him on-Loan to teams at the bottom of the premier league is a good option as it opens an opportunity to play in high tempo that premier league offers
