Should Arsenal part with £14M to sign him?

Arsenal must pay £14 million if they want to sign Baba Rahman from Augsburg this summer.

The 21-year-old only joined Augsburg from Greuther Furth last summer and has already attracted interest from a number of top European clubs, including Juventus, Inter Milan, Ateltico Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea, following an impressive season with the south-west Bavarian club.

And although Rahman is contracted to the Bundesliga club until 2019, the Ghanaian is understood to favour a move to England this summer.

Chelsea have reportedly had a bid rejected by Augsburg, while City are just monitoring his progress at this time.

Arsenal on the hand have been linked with a number of left-back options already this summer, despite having Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal on their books, and Arsene Wenger is understood to be impressed with the potential of Rahman.

Augsburg’s sporting director Stefan Reuter has expressed his desire to keep hold of the young left-back, but reports suggest that they are willing to sell if a club offer £14 million for his services.

So, should Arsenal consider tabling a £14 million bid and land Rahman?

Personally, I don’t think we should be looking at acquiring him – £14 million for a 21-year-old who had one good season in the Bundesliga with Augsburg? Really? I don’t believe he has earned that value after one season, and clubs would be foolish to pay such a fee, in my opinion.

I do believe we need to bring in another left-back to bolster our options. Gibbs is injury-prone and if Monreal becomes unavailable due to injury or suspension then we would come unstuck

But Rahman for me wouldn’t be on my list as a potential recruit, especially for the price Augsburg want for him.
