Sergio Busquets has emerged as a shock transfer target for Arsenal, according to reports in Spain.
Arsene Wenger is believed to be keen to add a defensive midfielder to his squad this summer to challenge Francis Coquelin and, according to Catalan daily Sport, the 27-year-old Spin international is supposedly being eyed up as a potential target – although no contact has yet been made.
However, it is thought Barca will not entertain any proposed bid for their midfield enforcer, as they view Busquets as a key member of the starting XI. In addition, Busquets still has four years left to run on his existing deal, with an option of adding a further year to his stay, so the likelihood of the Gunners landing him this summer are slim to none.
Arsenal o have a number of midfield options, but many believe adding another defensive midfielder to the squad will go a long way towards the club challenging for the Premier League title this season.
Personally, I believe we aren’t in desperate need of signing a holding midfielder, but if Wenger is looking to bolster this area then he will have to look at realistic options this summer.
