SzczesnyWojciech Szczesny has completed his loan move to Roma after passing his medical.

The Poland international was axed by Arsene Wenger as the start of the year over a smoking incident and was ousted by David Opsina for his starting position.

Since then, Wenger brought in Petr Cech, with the Czech goalkeeper viewed as Arsenal’s new number one, putting Szczesny future in doubt.

The 25-year-old was eager to remain at the Emirates and challenge Cech, but Wenger had other ideas.

So now Szczesny is at Roma for the season, and it is believed it could turn into a permanent one, if it all goes well in Serie A.

It is understood Roma have paid an initial £250,000 and also have a £5 million option as part of the current deal – but both sides will have to agree on the permanent move.

Szczesny may be reluctant to leave the Emirates, but his Arsenal career could well be over, as David Ospina remains at the club to be Cech’s understudy – even though Wenger still rates the Pole.

In my opinion – with Cech being 33-years-old – I can’t see Szczesny being Arsenal’s number one in a very long time. And although he will be reluctant to depart Arsenal, Szczesny has to consider his future and whether or not he can seriously get ahead of Cech and even Ospina in the pecking order.

The loan move to Roma was the right move to make, but we may well have seen the last of Szczesny at Arsenal.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
