Be careful what you wish for, Giroud

|

GiroudOlivier Giroud has welcomed the idea of Arsene Wenger bringing in a striker this summer to provide extra competition for his place.

The France international is Wenger’s first-choice centre-forward, but many believe the 27-year-old has a lack of competition for his place in the side, despite having the likes of Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez at the club.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of top strikers this summer and fans and media pundits alike believe the club need to bring in another forward to offer competition to Giroud, who scored 14 goals in 27 Premier League appearances last term.

Wenger has already suggested that he will only enter the market this summer if he finds an exceptional player, amid recent rumours of a move for Karim Benzema.

And rather than worry about his place in the starting line-up, Giroud would be happy to see a fellow striker arrive at the Emirates this summer.

Speaking after the Gunners’ 3-1 win over Everton in the Asia trophy final yesterday, the Frenchman said:

‘I am going to focus on my preparation. We are doing well together with a good cohesion. The most important thing for me is that the team is always improving. I give my best every game. If there is another striker it will be nice for all the team because competition is good for everyone.’

It’s nice to hear that Giroud wants competition, as well as endorsing the idea of a new striker coming in this summer, but he should be careful what he wishes for because if Wenger does bring in a top quality forward like Edinson Cavani or Benzema then the former Montpellier man may well see less game time this season.

I don’t think we will be signing any more players that is why he has come out with such a statement. I think the Cech signing as good as it was will be the first and last foray into the transfer market…

Arserne should do his best to bring in an exceptional striker this summer, not just to provide competition to Giroud, but to compete for the title this season. The fans deserve it.

Giroud endorsing the idea of signing another striker shows that he isnit afraid of competition and besides, it will add more bite in the attack. During the time of Thierry Henry at Arsenal, we had other fantastic finishers aside from Henry; contributing significantlly to our seasonal goal tally. So, why can’t we do the same now.

Coming out of giroud doesn’t mean that we would not bring in quality striker, we are working hard to add competent striker not just striker and I believe we will bring one

Knowing Asene, i don’t Arsenal will be buying any more players before the end of the transfer window; except a very quality player that’ll go straight to the team (e.g benzema, higuain) becomes avalaible, and from the look of things, that’s not gonna happen this summer. I forsee Walcott playing more through the middle this season. If we start well, have better luck on the injury front, improve our perfomance on the big games, we’ll win the league this season.
