FlaminiBastia are interested in Mathieu Flamini, according to reports in France.

The 31-year-old Frenchman started 15 Premier League games before the turn of the year, but found his first-team opportunities limited after Francis Coquelin was recalled from his loan spell at Charlton.

And with Mikel Arteta recently penning a new one-year extension, and Arsenal linked with a number of defensive midfielders, Flamini could be pushed further down the pecking order next season and become surplus to requirements this summer.

But, according to Eurosport France, Bastia are keen to land the Frenchman, thus offering him a way out of the Emirates.

The Ligue 1 outfit could offer Flamini more first-team opportunities, but will have to persuade the Gunners to sell and for the player to take a big wage-cut for a deal to go through.

I don’t see any reason why Arsenal would reject an offer from Bastia for Flamini, as the midfielder has become an afterthought at the club. The stumbling block in this potential deal is the player himself, whether he would be willing to take a pay-cut to secure more game time.

  • Howard says:

Its Arsene’s fault. Giving 3 years contract to a player rejected by AC Milan.
AC Milan was prepared to renew his contract only if he agreed to a reduced wages of 25k a week. He came to train at Colney to improve his fitness only for Darren Dean to secure a 3 year contract at 75k a week for him.
Who caused it; Arsene Wenger, the one who gave 6 years contract to a perenially injured Diaby at 65k per week.

He won’t leave. like Diaby and Squillacci, the money is too good.
