Donyell MalenArsenal have snapped up Dutch wondekid Donyell Malen from Ajax, according to reports.

Chelsea and Barcelona were both believed to be in the running for the 16-year-old striker, but it appears the Gunners have won the race for the teenager’s signature.

Having scouted Malen earlier in the year, it’s believed Arsenal have signed the Holland Under-17 international, who has five caps to his name, on a scholarship contract – which will turn into a professional contract when he turns 17.

Malen, who is represented by Mino Riola, is described by the Italian super-agent as a ‘phenomenal’ prospect for the future and will be viewed as a coup in the long-term.

Malen, who didn’t manage to feature for Ajax’s senior side, possesses great agility and technical ability, as well as an eye for goal, and will go straight into the renowned Arsenal academy.

The Gunners would have had to pay a basic compensation fee to Ajax, but nothing that would have affected the club’s finances.
