Gonzalo Higuain (Argentina):Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri has confirmed via his Twitter account that Arsenal have made contact with Napoli over a summer move for Gonzalo Higuain.

The Argentine striker was reportedly on Arsene Wenger’s radar in summer 2013, but he opted to join Napoli from Real Madrid.

However, it is now thought Higuain is seeking a way out of the Stadio San Paolo following a disappointing season with Napoli, who finished fifth in Serie A, and wants to play Champions League football next term.

A number of teams from around Europe are understood to be keen on the Argentine international, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.

And Palmeri has confirmed the Gunners contact with Napoli.

On June 1st 2015 at 12:03pm, Palmeri tweeted:

‘Arsenal too have contacted Higuain.’

It is believed Arsenal are looking to find a new striker this summer to offer competition and support to Olivier Giroud, and Higuain has been mentioned on quite a few occasions in recent days.

Should Wenger be keen on signing Higuain though, then the Frenchman must be prepared to meet Napoli’s asking price of £40 million.

Although Wenger has splashed this amount of cash in the past couple of seasons on the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, I doubt he will do the same with Higuain.

Perhaps contact has been made between the two clubs, but I bet Wenger baulked at the sum Napoli wanted for their striker, which will possibly end our ‘interest’.

I agree wit u on Higuain! AW Will neva splash 40mil on him except there are no cheaper ulternatives or perhaps there is specific objectives to be met ,odawise wit d ability of every player in his team to score goals frugal AW won’t sanction such deals. I tink AW will go for Martinez, Larcarcete nd like.
